    Description

The founder of Batavia (Jakarta) in the name of the Vereenigde Oostindische Compagnie (one of the first larger corporations in the World). His famous one-liner was “Dispereert niet”, Do not disperse. This plate was made celebration the 300th anniversary of the city of Batavia. This 8.9” (23cm) plate was designed by Leon Senf and painted by J. van Lijnschoten (worked from 1889 - 1935). There are only 1024 plates made so it’s quite rare. It is in perfect condition, without any cracks or chips. This plate is similar to the plate depicted in the book Royal Delft, a Guide to Porceleyne Fles on page 132. It is estimated by him at $ 175,-.

The Porceleyne Fles (Royal Delft) is the last surviving earthenware factory from the 17
    th
century in Delft. The factory began producing in 1653 and became quickly one of the most important pottery factory’s in the Netherlands. The world known logo (little bottle be was used for the first time in 1697. In the 18
    th
century it went downhill with the pottery industry due to foreign competitors with newer techniques and better materials. In 1884 my great grandfather Abel Labouchere took over the company and together with Joost Thooft made a few important changes and thus gave the products more durability. With that he laid the foundation for the factory as we know it today. In 1929 my mother was given a little vase as a present. It laid the base for a huge collection of commemorative earthenware (Cloisonné tiles and plates). I’m now selling a few spares
